Saturday, August 1, Backpack Giveaway

MyMenu will be firing up the grill to encourage family fun while preparing students for a successful school year. All K-12 students and their families are welcome to attend and are encouraged to arrive at 2pm as backpacks will be available while supplies last. While there, students and their families are invited to enjoy games and activities. Backpacks include such supplies as rulers, erasers, glue sticks, pens, pencil pouches, and pencils.
Basic school supplies valued at over $70,000 are provided to area students, preparing them with the tools for success thanks to the community support in raising funds along with the corporate partners such as Madison's CW, MyMenu, Lands' End, Slumberland, Northside Christian Assembly, Monarch Madison, Noah's Ark Animal Workshops, and Homework Learning Center.

Fine Art - Music - Food. These three things are what describe the annual Tallman Festival, slated as a two-day event this year. Take in numerous artisans, live music, a Taste of Janesville venue, tours of the Lincoln Tallman House, ice cream social, crafts and entertainment.

Camp Rotamer, 5245 E. Rotamer Road

$50/Friday through Sunday; early camping Thursday costs $10 extra. Parking is $5 per car.

This years Cosmic Railroad Family Gathering will take place once again at beautiful Camp Rotamer. The atmosphere there is incredible. The beautiful park-like setting along with the small lake, pier and camping, set the stage for a real family atmosphere.
The style of music is jam-band orientated. Jam band ekoostik hookah will headline Friday night. Saturday morning activities include a Hannah Montana-related event for the giggling girls. The rest of the weekend, audiences will be treated to music in the style of the Grateful Dead and Phish, as well as loose, improvisational music from a variety of other genres including bluegrass, reggae, American roots, jazz, progressive rock and a blend of all of the above.

NNO is a crime prevention evening that places an emphasis on building police-community partnerships and neighborhood unity. This event is free to the public and will occur rain or shine. NNO activities include free music, games, demonstrations and food.

During NNO, children also have the opportunity to be fingerprinted and photographed free of charge. Each child's fingerprints and his or her new photo will be placed in a special "Kid Care Kit" that parents may take with them for future reference. In the event that a child is abducted or is missing, having a recent photograph and a set of fingerprints available quickly is a critical measure in reuniting the child with his or her family. Janesville Museum, Inc. & City of Janesville Leisure Services Department present an affordable day-trip for families to the Children's Discovery Museum in Normal, Illinois. Explore, imagine, create, and play with three floors of hand-on exhibits such as: My Place, Train Express, Dig It, Luckey Climber, Toddler Backyard, Paint Wall and more! Snacks, movies and fun games will be provided on the air-conditioned coach bus! A box lunch is provided. Limited seating. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The normally solitary act of knitting has become more communal with stitchers who gather together each week for coffee, dodging skeins of run-away yarn, stitching and conversation. Even new knitters who aren't yet consumed by the growing popularity of the craft, or other needle workers who crochet, embroider, cross stitch, etc., can enjoy an evening spent stitching with others providing the further opportunity to learn and get advice. The focus of the group is knitting, but welcomes all needle-crafty people of all ages and genders with different levels of expertise.

Opening ceremonies and survivor lap at 6 pm on Friday. Public welcome to attend. Luminary ceremony at 10 pm. Fight Back Ceremony at Midnight. Closing ceremonies Saturday morning.

Relay for Life is a local event held at the Rock County Fairgrounds. It's one of the biggest fundraisers for cancer research! There will be food and crafts for purchase.
